designers are like children, lots of us are anyways. I always try to help anybody in need here, and I think and hope many others do as well.
If I was a young designer, I would be terrified to come here and reveal myself to some of these clowns, but the fact is, this is the inter-web, and it doesn't cost a thing.
freak-shows will always show up, it's all relevant to the percentages of asses in the world.

i think this place is great. yes, there is a lot of slagging, but you also get a ton of free valuable advice. you can't beat that with a stick. i'd take a slagging or two for that.

Colin, your post is somewhat of a 'rites of passage' thing here on NT - we've all felt it, said it, and then just got on with it and ignored (or tried to!) those who are just here to get a reaction and piss people off.
For every asshole there are 10 guys willing to help and I think you'll find there are a ton of folk on here who regularly help out - people like unfittoprint, jazx, jox, even rasko and engage when they're not on the rag!
Don't be scared off - the bark is generally worse than the bite!

I've been impressed with the help ive had in the past here. Occasionally some idiots stop by and cause problems, but generally this is the place to check if you want inspiration, help, vector files from Jazx, and whatever else!
Give it a chance, it'll make ya proud !
