Does anybody care about these anymore? When did they start selling the tilte as part of their partner program?
- brundlefly0
right around the time I bought the full suite. :)

seriously in late 2000 or 2001, me thinks

I think you're right. It used to be a mark of excellence. Places I've worked would buy a couple per year for shits and giggles.
- JamesEngage0
What do you mean they used to buy them?
Is that how some people got featured as a 'site of the day'?
- frankNbeans0
Yes. Macromedia affilliates program. Companies pay like 1500 per year to say they're a "Macromedia Affiliate". You get more than preferential treatment. We once knew before we started working on a site that it was going to be featured.
- frankNbeans0
I don't think they say it's guaranteed when you signup, but it's implied. I think we had the highest affiliate package. Have you noticed how lame the showcase sites have been for the past couple years. It's not because they're good.
- JamesEngage0
right... well the three times I got on it they weer all legit... but that was early days... plus it was solely shockwave then... it's flash mostly now isn't it... I never even look at it any more, purely because it's always big corps overbloated sites.

"We once knew before we started working on a site that it was going to be featured. "
Is that for real? If it is it's a really poor show for those who submit their site and never get listed, even if it is good enough...
MM site of the day has had zero credibilty for a long time now.
- lyrek0
ahahahaha. yay! now i KNOW why none of my sites ever got listed. :) I was like "dammit, i keep submitting sites to them and they're listed everywhere else (netdiver, mediainspiration, NT NTB, etc.) but they never get submitted there.

• <-- heartSo where do you go to find good sites, nowadays? Like a good daily listing that isn't tainted by greedy corporations?

and if you can fend off the spam, there is still a lot of good stuff that once was:

whatchoo takin about?
you don't have to pay for macromedia site of the day. the place i work for did http://www.yakima.com and was listed as Macromedia Site of the Day about a month afterwards. They had us all take a survey first. no payment necessary.
