  PS7 -- wondering how i can take a layer and make it the transparency mask of another layer

  Go to channel tabs, create a new channel based on one of the color channels. Load it up (apple-click or ctrl-click) go back to the layer tab, go to the layer you want to apply the mask. press create mask. Thats pretty much it.

  or

  have the transparent layer over the the layer you want to mask in layers palette.

  and shift (i think it's shift, i dont' have ps open and it's kind of automatic) click in between the 2 layers.
