Dawn of the Dead just came out in a pretty awesome 2 DVD set.
i cant wait for Day of the Dead to do the same (has anyone seen the trailer for the remake? yikes!)
also, a while back i found a 2 pack DVD of Dario Argentos Demons and Demons 2. fucking fantastic human to zombie transformations including a demon kid and a demon puppy. sweet.
i second the Re-Animator, that movie is great. also sleepaway camp is out in a box set with all of the series. not too shabby all though the latter ones are all about boobs and 80s hair.
also if you can find it, Rock N Roll Nightmare staring THOR, canadas former mr world / heavy metal god / feat performer turned film producer / writer / director / star. its sooooo bad its back to being awesome again

There's some mad Japanese horror films out there. These aren't pre 1985, but definitely worth watching:
Ichi the Killer
Battle Royale
Ring

can't believe no one has mentioned not only the greatest horror film ever made, but the greatest film ever made (in my opinion, for what its worth)......
The Shining
if you don't find the elevator doors/river of blood scene, or the "come and play with us Danny...forever...and ever...and ever..." scene scary then there is something wrong with you!
