has anyone heard about apples new idea: selling a 2gig ipod for 99$ this year?
can't believe?!
- visualplane0
I hope they don't do it. I just spent $435 on my 20 gb.

I would still get my 30Gb over a crappy 2Gb....for the price difference there is no contest...you're welcome to 2Gb but in the grand scheme of mp3's it's not many.
WIth my 30Gb I have almost every album I have ever owned on it....

I welcome the 99 dollar ipod. I have no use for an external harddrive or the ability to carry around my entire mp3 collection. 2gb is ALOT of mp3's

I can only assume this is in US funds? Still, very nice!

I reckon they'll be announcing it on Tuesday at the Macworld Expo, definitely a great idea - most normal* people don't want any more than a couple of gigs of storage so the current iPods are overkill.
*as in people who don't need to carry graphics files around and haven't spent the last few years downloading music.
- pascii0
well, i don't judge ppl downloading music - i mean it's stupid how much we pay for cds and made popstars - but a 5GB ipod would be a fine thing

I have the 15gig and its almost full.
The smaller 2gig iPods that Apple is going to introduce is to help them compete wit the lower end mp3 player market.
I think they are doing this because they want to give people the quality of the iPod but keep the prices low.

are there any pics of this mini ipod yet?
- Cadillac0
I think the mini iPod will pretty much look the same as current iPods. The word "mini" only refers to the capcity of the hard drive I would think.
Just got the 40GB for Xmas and couldn't care less about any other iPods :)
- design_slave0
i've heard the new ipods will be much smaller in size.
- sexypixel0
majority of ipod owners dont have a need for anything over 2 gigs, its a great idea, and also clever to release it after xmas, and after they have sold bucket loads of gigs that people dont need
- mrdobolina0
dont understand why anyone needs to carry around their entire cd collection with them. as though you are never on a computer. but, to each his own. I cant wait for smalled ipods.
- ********0
im definetely picking one up.. and u know they're gonna be smaller and sexier than the big ipods ;)
- mrdobolina0
word to that nick.
- sexypixel0
of coarse there are benifits of having your entire music collection on one small unit.
1. I have all my cd stored away and they will never get scratched/used/thrown on the floor
2. I go back to ireland once a year for 4 weeks, i have my entire music collection with me and ad more to it when i'm there
3. you can bring it to parties, when everyones sick of djing, just put it on random play
4. your on a bus home from work, you see something that reminds you of a song, you have it there to listen to straight away.
i cant think of one disadvantage
im sure theres more that i cant think of
- mrdobolina0
true sexy, the only disadvantage I can honestly think of is the price tag.
- sexypixel0
ya, true, pricetag is a big issue, but its tax deductable as its an external hard drive :)
- jox0
great, i'll get one.
now if I could only find a time during the day when I can listen and where I don't have another music source nearby.
- jevad0
word tony - those were all the reasons I was gonna use!

I just spent $275 on my 30GB Nomad mp3 player, and I love it too.
Sorry you had to spend over $400...
