What up.
I'm in the market for a camcorder and lookin to spend $600-$900.Whats up with the Sony DCR-DVD100 DVD Handycam...
It burns DVDs...Is that good in comparison to a miniDV? Can someone school me on what's good, bad, better, worse...
Thanks for the help!

I think that sony camcorder burns only on mini dvds, which makes for much less recording time available. when it comes to movies you want as much as you can get.

i would get a DV cam over DVD for a couple of reasons.
1. you will get more for your money in features.
2. easier to find DV tapes than miniDVDs. Sony released 1 camera that used minidiscs to record on. it seemed like a great idea, but they only released 1 model.
3. any time that you record on a disc, there is a period of time that it takes to run through the burning process. that means that you sit there for a minute or 2 while it works its stuff. alos, tapes cant get scratched or skip.
4.miniDVD quality is just as good or better than DVD.
5. if you want to take the movie to be edited somewhere, they will most likely have editing equipment for DV.i like the Sony models, try to get the carl zeiss lens if possible.

you all are right, the DVD thing isn't seeming like such a good idea...

i don't think you'll be able to get a 3 chip for that price range.... unless you get some ancient vx1 or gl1 from ebay
