Does anyone here work on a Celeron? People always tell me it's so slow..
I have this tower left and i wanna equip it with a motherboard and cpu..
I will def. go for an asus board and think about saving some cash from the Pentium IV and put that into rams.. have a Celeron 2.4 insteadcause my main concern is not power, but to have 4-5 progs running at a time..
suggestions?

probably won't make that big of a diff if you're not working in cpu intensive progs... also, it's all what you make of it. I do all my work on a 933mhz p3 laptop... still gets done what i need to get done, but surely it isn't fast.

get this. its the best power for your dollar right now. its all about that front side buss.

dont get a Celeron, its not THAT much cheaper and it really is alot slower.

agreed a P4 1.7 gig is snappier than a celeron 2.4 gig....
and the cost is about the same, just get lots of ram....that is always the key.

i agree with toastie. if you have the $, get a better proc. (if your board will support it... if it supports a cele, it probably supports a Px).

thanks guys, i see and i'd totally go for a p4 1.7 or so, but the smallest cpu you can get here (germany) is 2.6.. celeron is only a third of the price..
i really don't use cpu monster apps.. pshop + flash + freehand..
did anyone run those on celeron?

or, you could save your cash and still get a monster cpu...buy an AMD.
why buy pentium if you have a choice?

right. Are you limited to a local purchase only? are you able to puchase on the net?
if so, check out http://pricewatch.com and see what you can get for a cheap price. AMD is always a good buy, and many places have nice MB/CPU combo's for cheap.
