hey there, my applevision 850 just died this weekend so i'm looking for a new crt display. i'do a lot of print stuff so calibration and the display quality (how close it gets to the real colour in print) is vital. i know that sony has good displays (applevision is basically a sony) but the prices are a bit too steep. people told me that the bluehooded lacie is good. anyone here got experiences with lacie? and what other brands are good as well? i can get this iiyama visionmaster pro514 22" monitor for about 580 euros. is that a good deal? i mean, it's big, but how about the colours? any help would be appreciated a lot.

if you are going to go crt, then there is many brands utilizing the trinitron tube...
the lacie does, the viewsonic does, NEC does, etc etc....
stay away from the pure flats, if you are looking for "extreme" colour accuracy, as they tend to run quite a bit warmer, and therefore shift colours quite a bit.

cheers brundlefly, but isn't trinitron sony (applevision) only? as in trademarked?
that iiyama has a diamondtron tube. does that ring a bell? or is it basically a trinitron?
i just checked the specs on that lacie (which is on my list as well) and it has a diamondtron tube as well.
it's just that all those manufacturers say it's the best, the pro, yadda yadda...
can you take a peek at (couldn't link it directly, sorry): http://www.iiyama.com/default.as…
click products, and you'll get 2 dropdown menus at the crt monitors bit. at model choose the HM204DT
and let me know what you think? the specs look good, especially in how far you can calibrate it. i would appreciate it a lot if you could take some time to look at it. cheers!

hey brundlefly, just talked to a friend on the phone. his shop (canvas printing) uses that iiyama vision master crt's only and they said it's really good and a sweet deal.

I use one of those lacie electron 22"'s at work and its pretty sweet. its all about how you calibrate them though, which is an art in itself.

Yeah we use those Lacies here too. The color are accurate and the hood is perfect for hiding your unproductiveness.

heheh yeah the hood works nicely especially with a PVAN reduced browser hidden at the side of my screen.. although my velcro bits have worn out now :(

:) hood's good for something which lacie didn't intended too? dope.
hmm that 22" lacie is quite expensive. i just ordered the iiyama something something pro and some master vision 22". has the same tube as the lacie. other people told me it's a really good crt monitor and has a high colour accuracy. although it really depends on the calibration.

yeah rabattski, the iiyama is getting some great reviews, you should enjoy it...
I have moved everything to apple flat panels, and still have pretty good (great) luck with printing...
it is the art of the calibration indeed.

yep. like a little kid waiting. with any luck it should be here friday.
anyways, you have that apple lcd screen? with a high colour accuracy? seriously? so if you keep the printed matter next to the screen it matches? that's amazing actually. and how about the contrast? seem to be always a lot lighter on lcd. how do you calibrate it then?
