http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/
I'm actually ripping CD's with it as I type this. It's the best free ripper/converter hands down.

yes, cdex is and always will be the best.

nope... dont use cdex.. it doesnt preserve the file info.
Just use iTunes for PC... it works great.. easy and you can set the quality of rip and what format you want to rip it too with ease

" nope... dont use cdex.. it doesnt preserve the file info. "
Yes it does, and it's really obvious how to enable it... I didn't like iTunes because it's not nearly as flexible or powerful as CDex in terms of ripping/sorting/naming options.

iTunes doesnt let you determine how you want your files to be named. That one very bad thing to lack.
If you have a compilation of artists it just names the song, so when you want to use that track in other software you dont know who the artist is.
cdex is a bit confusing to use.
I use media centre

iTunes:
When you insert the CD in your computer highlight the tracks and "get info" on a mac and probably "properties" on the PC- you can name them what ever you want and choose to have them as part of a compilation as well.

winamp 5.zero

radiosilent, that doesnt name the file, that just does the id tags.

why do you need any mp3 player to name a file? click on the file and name it on the desktop.
- sexypixel0
all 4000 of them?

Why do you have to re-name 4,000 songs? I don't understand. So your saying you have 4,000 songs with the wrong names? Any program you use is going to make that a long adventure. Assuming every song has a different artist, song, album name. How else can you do it besides one at a time? Mp3 Rage is a good program for re-name, batch processing, ID tags and the like.

with itunes i stores the files in an album folder, in the artist folder and then the track name.
i like each mp3 to be named like this
'artistname - trackname.mp3'
you cannot do that with itunes, it only does songname.mp3
so if you have a compilation, it only shows you the track name and not the artist

That was my big issue with iTunes. I have all my mp3's in one folder and I like then named Artist - Year - Album - Track # - Track Name and iTues wont let me do that. Granted I liked a lot about the software, it's just not flexible where I want it to be.
For management I *LOVE* MP3 Media Studio, but it's not free.

um, he has 4000 songs with the wrong filenames because itunes named them that way. he has 4000 songs with the right filenames because cdex named them properly.

Question:
How do I adjust the "recording" volume when burning a CD?I'm putting together a compilation, and some of the tunes have a much lower volume that I'd like to kick up to match the others. Any suggestions?
