How does that file format work exactly? I know it's streaming, but from where? And how?
I can still watch ASF clips I downloaded without being connected to anything!
How is that?!

Streaming Video

actually jox, seriously, I work with these in streaming video through a system called Tegrity, but it fucking sucks. I'm telling my department to kill it and use Sonic Foundry Media Site Live. Tegrity is crap and they use .asf's which never seem to stream totally right within their shit player.

yeah, i've noticed that a few minutes into a clip, there's a delay between sound and video - extremely annoying when people's mouths doesn't move the way they speak.
But I still don't understand how it works exactly.

this happens to me too. I think I know why, because the shitty software isn't truly able to handle the file in some capacity, Grrrrr!! :(

sucks! and i've also noticed that the delay gets even worse depending on how big your video window is - if I'm running fullscreen, the video can be 10 seconds ahead of it's sound!
Create a pertition for it, demanding it's end, and i'll be the first one to sign! RAOR!

I know what you mean. I could send you to countless lectures that we've video captured and are perfectly fine until we convert the raw tape footage and digitalize into .asf format. The then software makes it even worse. :(

yeah so .wmv is somehow trying to reformat themselves blah blah according to my videographer colleague
