Okay, here's the verdict:
I got it last Wednesday and am quite thrilled with it. The software that rips CD's to mp3 does it very quickly, but I found it to be kind of dodgy on new cds, maybe there is something on there that hinders ripping cds.
Old cds, and even ones that were pretty scratched worked fine.
USB2.0 connection is very fast, a 12 song cd transfers in probably 30 seconds. As for the player itself, the sound is fantastic. Honestly, I've never heard music through headphones (Sony behind ear kind) sound as crisp and detailed as it does on the Nomad. I feel like I'm hearing new parts of songs I never noticed.
As for the menu system that some have complained about-I think it's fine. I do wish the buttons were on the front panel, but I'm already used to it. It came with a case, but it has no window over the LCD screen... :(Some people complained about not being able to have a folder system on it. My workaround was to put all albums and mp3 folders into Playlists while arranging them on the computer.
I seriously like it alot.
Saw an ad for the ipod on TV last night "$299 for 15GB ipod"
I paid the same for twice the storage and it works like a champ.
