time vs. value

I notice that pricing questions come up often on this board and general consensus tends to answer that its as easy as figuring out time spent and multiplying that by our hourly.

But the question still persists. It's complex, no? Like if a client asks me to design a mock-up for a site (home page + internal) that will be developed in-house, I might figure out that it will take me say 8 hours to design. But if I calculate the total cost at my hourly rate and look at the value of what they are getting from me, I feel sometimes there is a big disparity in value vs. time.

    Thoughts?
