I have a client who promised loads of work and vast wealth and then suddenly stops answering all emails and phone calls. I've been rather diplomatic with this fella, I must say, but my patience is running thin.
WTF? Do we have any recourse legally? What have you guys done in this situation?

use contracts.
charge late fee's
he has what he wants, show up there and try to collect. You can't go to any other place in the world and get something for free, you have rights go explain them

Send him a bomb ;)

call a collection agency to get your money, they take a % and then get yours for you.

well, you are kinda in a bad place if you didnt have a contract.
my policy is to always get paid on delivery with a new client.
only after a relationship is established can i give a little credit.

no contract = shit out of luck
sorry man it's true

I thought of driving down there but thought it kind of stalker-esque. F*ck it though, think that's what I'm gonna have to do.

take down the site?
- brundlefly0
taking down the site is an option, but you should explain that you are going to do it first, just taking it down will really put him on the defensive, and that's worse than square one, which is where you are.

i got a couple of connections with not-so-nice collecting agencies. they charge around 20-40% tho, but with guuaranteed results, otherwise money back. no BS..
let me know if you're interested..

The client has paid on other jobs, only this one small one. I don't generally use contracts, which is stupid, but think an invoice would hold up legally if the client verbally agreed to it, no?

fecal matter

I'd consider the collection agency thing, but it's only $500 bucks. Still worth it, you think?
- Geith0
What, on his doorstep, JazX?
- brundlefly0
yeah, get some contracts, ask for 30-50% up front to secure your time..... the rest payable upon completion.
you can search on google and usually find some really decent contracts then repurpose them.
- jox0
not right away, no. Tell him you're considering it. That's usually a weak spot. If not, let these guys use their "methods"...
- k770
psh, i'll spend $500 if you won't
- Geith0
eh?

I am going to start my own thread, as my situation may be a little unique, but I feel for you.
My client did the same thing, and it's a LOT more than $500. I do have contracts, but one was never completed.
Please look at my thread...
