Simplify, simplify, simplify. -- When I design a logo, I always keep in mind what it's going to look like printed on a pen - small size, one color. -- As an illustration, it's OK, but as a logo - you have ways to go.

Here's some inspiration:

You could use this as part of their identity (like for packaging or something) and then use bits of it for the logo. An identity doesn't have to be just a logo (look at Abbey - there's barely anything there).
