From a web desgin, 2d and 3d graphic design, + multimedia perspective.... which is better AMD or Intel. ( i don't play any games)
Any help/advice, muchly appreciated.

Either processor will be outdated in a year or so, no?
I buy AMD cause they're cheap, I save the money excess and use it to upgrade the coming halfyear

I was planning on getting an AthlonXP 3200, but when i mentioned it to a few people (mainly system admin) at work here, they said "AMD never again".
They rekkon they're unreliable, get too hot, create system crashes.
Is this true??

My machines always crashes. Wether it's apple/pc, amd/intel.
Also, I'm not that picky.
I figure I say "shit happens" at least once a day.I also say 'fuck'

If money were never an issues I'd always get intel (slightly more reliable IMO), but since it don't grow on trees - I get a much faster computer if I get AMD and spend a little more and double my RAM.

Been using AMD on my PCs for several years now. Never any problems like that.
Good bc they are cheaper than Intel. Don't really see a difference in running it.

I just read AMD's are dodge. And in specific the one i wanted (3200+) was quoted as "not being a hit".
Ah well... P4 here i come. where can i hand in my wallet. :(

well if you get amd get athlon 64 so when everyone switchs to 64 youll be ok but both cpus are good intel does provide a bigger boost but not that much that u can tell.....plus with a 64 bit cpu u can go higher in ram intel can only do 2 gigs of ram a 64 bit can go 16 gig of ram think about it.

Never had any problems with my AMDs. Planning on building a new one shortly also. Been looking at the AMD XP 3000 with 400 fsb. Check out http://www.tomshardware.com for some good info.

i had the same dillema a week ago, and I went with a P4, mainly because of hyper-threading and it was really not that expensive from newegg.

i've used intel for years... then i wised up and saved myself a ton of money. as often as i upgrade my computer it's silly to think of my processor as an investment. i've been running this amd processor and board for over a year now and i can't complain. ignore your system admins, they don't seem to know what they are talking about. or they are the type of geeks that overclock their processors as many manufacturers suggest they don't. at any rate, it's your money.

My Experience with AMD:
The Laptop got so hot it could not be placed on lap...ironically.
It was overclocked, stock. Simple as that.
Always crashed, eventually just puttered out.

FYI: There's not all that much software out yet that can take advantage of hyperthreading.
Was even told by a MS support person that Windows OS doesn't take all that much advantage of the new technology yet.

some notes you might like:
intels "hyperthreading" is a 'virtual' duallie.
my friend has a p4c overclocked, water cooled, hyperthreaded, 1 gig of dual-channel DDR ram ...
compared to my REAL duallie AMD setup, i can burn him anytime in aftereffects or studio max. sure he can play better games(because of his videocard), but
i have a duallie Athlon MP 2200(1.8ghz) with 2 gigs of DDR ram and a 266 fsb.. he has a 800 fsb, and i still burn him.
do you want to make money or do you want to play games?
ps: i have 17 fans, its not water cooled, but it keeps my feet warm in these late hours of the night. :)
