in situations like this.. if you dropped your PC tower it'd cost 600 bucks to replace the whole dang thing.
neve depend on a laptop as your only computer. it seems so risky.. it could be stolen from your car.. lost.. dropped.. left on the hood of your car as you drive off... overheated in your car on a hot summer day...
it seems like those things are more prone to accidents.
as many times as i drop my phone.. i know a laptop is not for me.
so sorry piper. if i had some money.. i'd give you some :(
- piperboytoy0
ok, c u Deeks.
Yeah, I shouldn't depend on a laptop, but I just like to work on a laptop. Desktops are too big and takes up so much space.
This is turning out to be a bad year for me. Can't live, can't die.

like nike says, "just do it" piperboy..
have some nog and brandy... deep breaths.

yeah I need to get smashed! :(
Ok what do you think I should do. I know that the cost of repair the thing will be over $1300. should I just go out and buy a new computer? Please advise?
I have enough money to get it fixed but not sure what to do.
- meok0
-Buy a new pc.
-Make another 1300$.
-Get you mac fixed.I can help with the pc softwares if you need.
- andre_k0
buy a new one, sell the other one for parts? A friend of mine sold his powerbook g3 for parts and made over 700 for it...
- piperboytoy0
I will check out PC prices today and see. thanks Loc. I might take your offer. But I think Deeks will help me out with some software.
i might be able to connect my computer to the tv so I can work again. Please pray it will work. This way it'll save me money and I won't have to buy anything new.

what are the symptoms when you try to boot up?
if anything, just take your harddrive out of your laptop and drop it in a g4 desktop or another laptop. i switched out a few HD's in my spare g4's. i know i've said this several times before, but you can make a very good amount of money on ebay with parts, even broken ones.
also, what are the specs, ahem, were the specs on the unit?

I didn´t read the whole thread but why dont you just ask anybody of your friends or family with a liability insurance to "drop it" again for you. Then let the insurance pay.
(Or might this be illegal? Damn... then dont do it!...)

yeah, buy a second hand G4 (tower, not laptop!!) or a PC for the time being.. it is very dangerous to have a laptop as your sole computer, they are simply waaaay to vulnerable.. and yes especially the ultra-thin (looks over endurance it is for Apple.. >:( )..
i wish i could help ya, but right now....
anyway, keep yer chin up and find a good temporary solution to work with!
goodluck, piper, i know you can do it!

thanks 4cy for your encouragement.
Mitsu, my book was working this morning, but the guy at the computer store tried to put the hinge back into place and must have snapped the wires, now it starts up but won't display anything.
I'm trying to connect it to my small tv in hopes that it might work.
I don't know if I can sell my computer, it's almost brand new, and I paid almost $4000 for it too. Only 3 months old.
It's a G4 Ti book 886 Mhz. 40gig HD with Combo drive.
- mitsu0
um... if 'the guy at the computer store' screwed up your display or even pinched one of the wires, i would think he is liable...
at any rate, your laptop is totally repairable. if anything, you could just connect it to a cinima display or regular vga monitor. i'm pretty sure apple sells vga converters.
there's nothing to be upset about here, just a tiny setback to make your life more interesting, right? :D
- toastie0
that sucks, man :(
but... you know... that's why I would never buy a powerbook. Cool as they are, you do run a risk when you carry around a $4000 little board.

I just got my computer hooked up to my 13" tv, but my resolution is off. Mitsu, can you tell me if there is a short cut to change my sreen resolution?
This has been so stressful, I'm suppose to start a new job next week, but not sure if I can do so.
Mitsu, you've been so great! I'll buy you a case of beer when I fix everything.
- piperboytoy0
ok got it to work.
I've thought over it and have decided to only get a monitor for now.
I am feeling much better now and have opt not to throw myself in front of moving traffic.
thanks for all your help and concerns.

Insurance is a good thing. When I bought my laptop two years ago it was a $2200 pc. I insured it, $25 a year. A speaker fell on the screen over the summer and when they realized that it couldn’t just be repaired they cashed me out $1600. Not bad. But until that was settled I was just plugging an old CRT into it and that worked fine.

Can't you get it insured and then make out you dropped it after you took out the policy?.
