so I've just been asked to do all this overtime or its work over xmas rant rant... now its not aften I have to do overtime and I dont like it because I'm already on a pretty wank wage, last year I did 85 hrs in about 3wks and only got paid because I had written down my hours and made a big point of it.
Basically I'm just wondering what everybodies situation is; do you get paid well and therefore dont mind (within reason) do you get time off in lue? I'm going to ask about this later and am really on the verge of just sacking this whole shit job.

Don't really get paid overtime, but then the company's quite lax on time keeping and other stuff, so i don't normally complain.

ive never been paid overtime and never been paid 'well' that justifies the late nights ive done. i once worked from 9.30ish am till past midday the next day.
i also was about to leave one night when i got told about a pitch that was for the next day!.. they said if they get it i'd get a grand as a bonus.. guess what, they won it with my visuals and i never got my bonus.. oh its coming, not this month, try next month, things are tight etc etc.
never got it
rant rant

see if you can work overtime form home, it makes all the difference rasko.
as far as the ACTUAL overtime goes. It affords me certain liberties at work. When times are slow, I won't roll in until late etc.
- rasko40
yeah I think I'll suggest that bob.

yeah they never caused to omuch of a fuss if i came in gone ten or spent a long lunch in the pub... although once they did come and get me and my work palls after a 3hour lunchtime drinking session in the pub nearby.
it was hard not to fall asleep when i was back in work though

i get paid ok. if overtime needs be, i do it and get paid for it (time and 1/2). i dont like doing the overtime though. i just feel like going home after a while

i think unpaid hours after work is just regarded as the norm in the design uk industry.
why is that?

if i got paid over time id make enough to retire
- rasp0
thats why they dont pay you overtime

i have a horrible work ethic and would do away with 40hr workweeks if it were up to me..
work to live, not live to work, blah, blah
luckily, where i work, overtime is not allowed.
and if it were, i'd really try to shy away from it. even doubled pay doesn't motivate me much because i could care less about money. it's just there to put a roof over my head and eat something besides ramen noodles.
- rasko40
but do you get paid well or good end of year bonusses tara?
I think it sucks, I work to live not live to work, I wouldn't mind if it was an amazing job doing brilliant work I really enjoyed..
- rasp0
what sort of thing do you do rasko?
- rasko40
print stuff mainly in the promotional btl area, done stuff for guinness, harp lager, kingfisher group, coke, bordeaux wines blah de blah... and a few websites here and there.

i had to work 7.30 till 11.30 for nearly 2 weeks, finished last thurs and after much champagne they gave me friday off (didn't have any holiday left). I think they knew I was about to quit otherwise. Even though I worked longer than a day extra it made me feel better to have a day off at their cost.
have you sat them down and asked what the benefit for you is for all the extra time they are asking for?
- rasko40
well thats what I'm going to do, this stems from talks I have had with them concerning my shit rise a few months ago and some other related issues I have.
