i've had one since may, love it. it's large, but good if it's your primary computer/screen. the track is a little wonky sometimes, when it turns off when i'm typing, but that's pretty much it.

isn't the point of a laptop to be portable? i don't get all these new, huge notebooks i see.
just buy a damn workstation, it will be cheaper in the end anyway.
:)

the track pad turning off when typing is an option you can set...
I have had mine since may as well, no problems whatsoever....speedy, awesome for graphics and print, stuffed it with a gig of ram, but the new ones take 2 gig!
I haven't touched my PC desktop since I got it....it is love!

A few of the outside designers and illustrators who come into the agency i work at have the 17in's and are extremely happy with them.

okay this bs about not being portable is just that. bs.
I carry mine everywhere, its under 7 pounds, that like 4 pounds lighter than the average dell portable and Dell give weights without their batteries (batteries are like 2-3 pounds from dell), and if you find a nice sleeve for it, its fine, doesn't hurt your shoulder, not a problem.

thanks for the info...sounds like everyone is diggin' em mostly.
cant wait....

i love being able to take it on trips, to meetings with clients, work in bed, on the pot, wherever, with a wireless network the advantages over a desktop are pretty awesome.
and the 17" isn't like OMG, that's insane-HUGE, it's big, but still very portable, ppl that say it kills "portablity" are thinking of it wrong, you put it in your bag, take it out and either put it on a desk or in your lap, which it works well, it's not like you're on the treadmill with the thing, let's be realistic. the only drawback is there aren't as many bags that can hold the 17"

i'm crazy for good backpacks. what ones work with the 17". i'm up in calgary canada, so i need one with some good padding to shield her from the -20 winds......
- brundlefly0
hey I am in calgary canada too, kensington
- brundlefly0
westworld and mymac have backpacks in house, if not a 2 day turnaround for em....they are specially made for the 17 as well

got any 12 inch for sale?
- sparker0
i guess it's a programmer thing. i can't stand anything above 15".
i'm getting ready to order one of the swank little 12" g4's for work.
gentoo linux should run super smooth on that little box.
i just don't get it. i saw a 17+" pc laptop the other night and it was massive. completely useless in my opinion. i want something that is thin, light and small enough to fit in any bag i have.
:)

yeah those toshiba 17 incher, although its the same screen, are disasters....they are 12.5 pounds, sans battery, almost 2 inches tall and a full inch or better all other directions than the mac.....
that is a desktop. wouldnt eant to haul that around
- sparker0
see, that's what i'm talking about. the g4 might be better, dunno...but those pc ones are horrible.
of course, i don't like any notebook over an 1/1.5" thick anyway...most dells, gateways, etc are all too clunky in my opinion.
that's why i like my thinkpad 600. it's just not high-end enough anymore.
:)
- brundlefly0
the mac is one inch thick.
it feels smaller than my old dell inspiron 8200.....much smaller, and much lighter.
- m2100
yeah i have a 12" ibook...g3 though. great for little print stuff on the road...but doing more video/mograph...so yeah. love the ibook. so tiny....just wont handle the big stuff so well.
- brundlefly0
heh I worked off a 12 inch ibook for a year, I loved it...
you will not believe the difference though.....seriously, you will not believe it.

don't drool over it too much, they are meant to work on.
