After 5 years creating websites i'm still asking always the same question before start a new project. Use flash, or not? Usually I finish choosing HTML just because Google is still without read inside .SWF format. If I create a website in .SWF of portal, the only that Google will read will be the headers of the .HTML.
Anybody knows why? Why google is still without reading inside .SWF? Is Google who doesn't want? of is Macromedia who doesn't want?

what?

uh?! what?! what part didn't you understand? I'm asking why google is still not reading the .SWF files to use the information (textboxes or data inside) in the Google database.

the swf format is a compiled format. google can't just go in and strip out all the data from it. it would have to decompile the swf first. i think google is leaving this issue up to macromedia and the html developers.

Trace: Maybe this will answer your question... Read this interview with one of Macromedia's product managers:

Google is still without read inside .SWF format?

ohhhhhhhhhhh, I see. Exactly gavin, it cannot go inside a closed compiled format and read what is going on. Although I have read that they are supposed to fix this dilemna or Macromedia will make some other kind of tag etc.

and as it is it google to macromedia flash i have to wonder so quick for a idea. it is that of a privacy issue i can think of it right now.? but if some one can see it in an adrress or url it is meta tags wouldn't it be funny,
- brundlefly0
mitsu good it is point. Realize decompiling as were swf not in it for great read.

A semi-solution I've used...
- Put all your content in external text files.
- In the HTML of your page that contains your flash movie, put small links at the bottom (the type that nobody will find eg, 1 pixel) that link to the text files. If you want to avoid them being seen by google as text files, rename them .htm - flash will still be able to load vars)

yep, it's a solution, but i wish google will decompile .swf and index all the data inside. Let's wait..

errr... wont the
tags that are generated in the html in Flash give google a little helping out?
