wheee! just ordered my new computer. Well, all the parts for it. First time in my life I'm actually gonna have a more or less top of the line machine.

congrats!

:) I was saying the same thing last month when I got the first new computer I'd had since 1998.
What did you get? Are you building it?
- rasko40
getting new toys is do0OO0ozy!

oh...and if it's a mac just come out and say it because I'll see myself out of this thread in that case! :D

"all the parts for it"

The one I built, I love trying to figure out how to put the 3GB of PC2100 RAM the mboard can handle, with only three memory slots. Can anyone else figure that one out for me?

i hate to put sand on your vagina here but it ain't top of the line when they deliver it to you.
:P

"sand on your vagina" ahahah :)

it's a 2.8GHz P4, 512 RAM + another 256 I already have, 80 GIG drive, a Radeon 9600XT and a very nice case.
And guess what, it was $712 total :P That's why I'll never buy a mac ;)

I built one that's 2.0Ghz Celeron, 256mb ram (soon to be 1gb after christmas) DVD, CD-RW, 2 20 GB drives, etc. etc blah
I still use the old one with a KVM, and you can imagine my delight with having something a "little bit faster" than the 350 Mhz seriously upgraded Compaq I've been using for years. :)
- Mimio0
Doesn't sound like top of the line.
- toastie0
quiet, Mimio, i've been stuck with a 500Mhz + voodoo3 for longer than anyone should ever be :P

true, neither of us built an ENIAC or anything...
but maybe to him "top of the line" is what he feels like he has now? could be like me and be making a serious improvement with over their current computer.

how long with that setup toastie?
I got my Compaq Christmas 98, and over the years added ram up to 320, a burner, Win2k, a scanner, extra hard drive.
I got by on it pretty nicely, but now with the new one it's crazy to see how much faster I can do things.
Music editing I was doing on the 350Mhz that would crash Cakewalk doesn't even take 5% of the CPU on the new one.

HOTT!

i went from a 133MHz and a VoodooBanshee (*gulp*) to a 500Mhz and a Voodoo3 in like 1998, since then i've only added some more memory, a burner and an SBLive! with surround speakers.
So yeah, for me, this is a quantum leap.

"512 RAM"
Get more RAM (isnt that expensive these times). Seriously!
