Is it me or is this just a way to make money out of someone?.
"Clusta are now taking applications for 1 (unpaid) intern placements. Minimum six month placement starting in the new year. (accomidation available)
We are look for:
programmer, the following skills would be usefull:
ASP.MS SQL.NET.ACTIONSCRIPT.PHP.MYSQL.C...Unpaid for 6 months is a joke!, how is anyone going to survive unless they got rich parents???

i wonder what the accomidations are
- mitsu0
it's a trade off.
they get free services which may or may not be up to par with professionals with years of experience in terms of quality and quantity.
you get work-related experience, an extra line or two of something to put on your resume and possibly a permanent position if you prove yourself to be worth paying.
- jox0
fucking rip-off. and they suck too.
- mitsu0
plus, i think these types of positions are for folks who are still in college who are looking to start their career early so that when they are finished, they won't have trouble finding work... that's the idea anyway.

yeah, in my school, an unpaid internship is required to finish the computer grahics program
- ible0
humm?? i thought interns are for people who dont know much and are there to learn and by the look of that they're wanting someone who knows it all.
- ible0
Why pay when people with the skills will work for free????.
- wesfx0
some people go the shady route when it comes to interns. 2 of my previous employers both hired interns (or tried to) after i quit to get work for free.
- unfittoprint0
Unpaid internships are the new slave plantations.
Don't give me the 'experience' , 'great work environment' bullshit. Those people are just looking for cheap [read: cost $0], 8am-02am 'sweat shop' schedule, that truly's an insult for workers rights and employee obligations.
For 3rd world standards I would prefer to make Nike's in Thailand.

listen i'm sorry about being so negitive over this subject, i can understand the chance it gives a student for experience, but for free??? it's gotta be a "High-end" company with great High-End clients, this company clusta is niether. I just don't like seeing talented students getting screwed.
- mitsu0
hey, i never said i would do it, i'm just explaining the idea.
yes, there should be some sort of compensation, but the fact that there are people out there willing to do it for free means companies can get away with it.
i can, however, see one instance where this would be justified. say there is a company that EVERYONE wants to work for. a short internship would be a great way to show how badly you would like to work for the company while also showing off your skillsets... but such a desirable company is rare, if not altogether unheard of.
