is this something that you've just 'got' in your blood?
cuz I love design and aesthetics and creating... but I HATE the advertising side - the witty slogan - the idea that not only is the peice beautiful... but somehow is manipulative.
I'm learning that I don't 'got' it. It's very difficult - especially in fashion, jewelry & clothing.
Anyone have any book ideas?... can I be trained to be more verbally creative... or more symbolically creative? Or should I just give up like a whiny bitch?

My degree is in Advertising and though I'm not working in it currently, I will be eventually.
I've always said to people about advertising, "If someone comes to you with a piece of broken brick they just knocked out of a wall, and they say to sell that and then sell one hundered more, you've got to be able to figure out how to do that, you've got to be able to figure out every possible way you can represent it, market it, and sell it."
And, thus, we're likely never met with such a horrible thing to work with, and everything that we do work with and do have to sell and advertise will always have within it the ability to be shaped, represented, and sold to someone in as many ways possible.
And you either have the capacity to see that, or you don't.

it seems like more and more the verbal witty idea kind of print advertising is giving way to more of a graphic idea kind of thing

The agency i'm with uses classic cinema and fashion for his inspiration. We're always digging through old classic films and older fashion books.
We also use Directors like the Hughes Brothers and Bryan Singer, and photographers like Moshe Brahka, Mathew Rolston and David LaChappelle. We even used the guy who directed Dr No fl to direct some commercials a few years ago.
We focus on trying to create things that will last through the ages.. or people can appreciate as art.Its cool to work at a place like this, but I'm itching to get into the future and away from relying on the past. I crave to be on the cutting edge...

doing things in a haste produces a lot of waste.
so, why are deadlines allways yesterday?

"And you either have the capacity to see that, or you don't. "
Sorry, I'm just tired of hearing that. Any Joe can accomplish anything. That's what the brain is for.
Sidenote: there's business school for training on how to sell bricks
