This is probably real easy, but ill ask anyway...
I want to create a dropshadow with edges that fades from black to white in illustrator.
I tried making a gradient, but then the gradient didn't corresponded to my path. Then I thought Gradient Mesh but that didn't do the trick either. There must be an easy way to do this?

You mean an ordinary drop shadow like Filter > Stylize > Drop Shadow or Effect > Stylize > Drop ... ? Just be aware of potential transparency problems when exporting to other formats/programs ...

well yeah, but the thing i want is a gradient fill that corresponds with my form, like if i draw a hammer and want a shadow below that has the same form as the hammer but has a gradient from the center to the edges, anyone understand what iam tryin to say... hmm, kinda hard to explain this in a foreign language.

Sounds like you should be using the Blend tool instead and blend from a small black hammer centered on top of a large white one ...
