hey guys...
I want start looking into purchasing a digital camera... I don't exactly know shit tons about them... I was wondering if you guys could give me some recommendations on what might be the best digital camera I can buy for my cash?... I also would like to keep it under $300 (CDN)... I know, I know... not THAT much... but what the jesus do you expect from me?
also... if you decide to break out any specs or technical shizzle... assume I am the age of 4...

well, first question:
what are you planning to do with it?
you said under $300, so that implies you're just gonna take pictures of your friends and parties, and not using those pics for design.

Depending on how you plan to use the camera and whether you can increase how much you want to spend...

I dont think you can go wrong with any of the canons.....just dont buy a model over a year old

kpl, what do you mean "not use the photos for design?"
There are several under $300 digital cameras that are 3.0+ megapixels that would be perfectly fine for design work.
I hope I don't have to say there are a million and one design oriented things you can do with digital photos in an image editing program that result in outstanding artwork, that didn't come from a $1,000 digital camera, or even a $500 camera.

I'm possibly getting this after the holidays.
I had a Sony Mavica CD-1000 (stored on 3" cds)w/a 10X optical zoom, and 1.8mp that I got in 2001. Got rid of it for rent money and not had one in a year or so.

buy a lomo camera.
with that budget, you can buy 20 and you can't ever get enough of lomo
