Anyone who makes this statment:
"Japanese design is stark and quiet design."
Has never been to japan.

i guess out here, i think, design (graphics too, look at bruce mau) and architecture is very formal.
it seems that stuff here is built mostly to withstand the elements... heavy on solving the problem, light on making it beautiful. perhaps japanese deisgn isn't more beautiful, so much as toronto design being ugly? :)

So, why and how is the Japanese design more beautifuler? (without using more then one adjective)

a) Japanese design is stark and quiet design. It's elusive and tricky.
b) Design in Toronto, does the job, it's tough and rough, and Japanese design is more beautiful.
(thinking more about industrial design than graphics, hope that helps some..)
