question:
How do I make a PDF editable to a .doc document or something?
-what is your way to send the template letters so clients can write a body and columns of text in there?
(I don't have ms Word, sorry..)

we used to do a web based publishable pdf doc set up for a telecom co, I cant remember how we did it as it was back in 2000, lemmme have a look at the old files

err word... Or you could use pdf but your client needs to have the acrobat full version.

so if I can manage to get ms word, how can I do that?
-importing the .ps background?
-importing the pdf file as bckgd?
-Hi-res image is out of question.

You have to set the area on the PDF with the "form" preferences. (a tex box). You need the full version of PDF to achieve this, but anyone with the PDF Reader can use it to edit the text. You can even tweak with date formats for headings, etc...
