looks like you have a slight problem with your menu. every time i mouse over it and then mouse to some other menu item, it replays.
if it's triggered by a button, make sure to only have that button on the first frame or something...other than that, looks good

i'm having a hard time with the menu...can't get it right yet, but will keep trying.

nice & retro. me likey.
my 2 euros:
you could make the arrows have same 'feeling' the site has, desigwise;
try giving the buttons an RollOver/RollOut [and Pressed] states;
the lady could wink to the user, nothing wrong with that ;-)

Taragee, site is for a client selling his cards, candles, and journal. Targeting African - American Females.
I do need help on the menu... i'm using a roll over with "hidden button"
Please advise on a beter way.

the best way to do it (well maybe not the best) but the way I'd do it is: Use that hidden button that to trigger a movie clip (ie. the menu moving out) This button will initially have to check whether the menu is active or inactive (that way if the menu is already out it won't re-loop the animation of it coming out if you rollover the buttong again.
The final step would be to have an invisible button in the menu movie clip that basically tells the menu to animate back on mouse out... it would also reset the menu position to inactive. That way when you rollover the initial button the menu will pop out again.
Not sure if that's the effect your after... but it would definately tighten up the usability of your menus.

Why have the menu animate? It is annoying the way it works at the mo, why not just have it on screen all the time?
Like the idea of the lady winking on roll over on whn you click the mouse. That would be a nice little touch.
Other than that, good stuff!

I like it but I am not crazy about the illustration of the lady
don't understand me wrong, the illustration is excellent but It doesn't match( color/style) with the background and feel of the rest of the site
the site looks 'old, nature, vintage,..
the woman looks modern, design, colorful,..

shes not very african american looking. but i like the background and the wooden thingy, thats african looking, maybe mute the colors on her cloths a bit

is the bg supposed to be white?....there is a bg image to the left and right of the swf...did you set the swf to transparent?...cuz that doesnt work in safari...
i really like the navigation concept...pretty refreshing...but it looks like there are a lot of craft issues with this site...i.e. the rounded edges look anti-aliased, the background, feels like it was rushed visually...
i would like to see you play (visually) with the depth of the layers and adding some subtle things to make it feel a little more tactile...the arrows also need to change to fit the visual concept...and the illustration is good but doesnt fit the aesthetic or audience...
i think it is a very strong start...with some refinement could be awesome...
