A friend has asked how much I think it would cost to do a site similiar to:
    http://www.buynetcar.com/

He has started a car dealership and I guess wants a web site for that and for their e-bay car auctions.

If he wants something similiar to that site and in Flash, w/a way for him to update it on his own (images/pictures) what would guess that would cost?
    Thanks.

if you are a developer, factor in the time it would take to build the backbone of this site first. db, site architecture, scheduled updates, ad banners, etc. if you don't nkow, find a developer and ask him. do not go any less than 45/hr (for backend work).

factor in your time as a designer (shouldn't take to long to design considering this site is going to be dynamic). i would not do the site in flash unless you are really really good with flash remoting and flashcomm server the trial and error of getting it to work would drive you nuts and take a long time to build.

in the end, its going to be expensive. if you know its your first time taking on something like this, try and give a price break, but not too much. just enough to remain competitive and cheaper than the rest.

    good luck.

    Honda,

I really appreciate the reply. I've never done anything that extensive, and obviously the dilemma of this being a friend presents itself.
Giving quotes like that aren't easy-too often because it's a friend AND because they are not familiar with pricing for sites, the proper quote for something extensive is shocking to them.
But in reality, for the same work from a company they hired, they would get similiar quotes, most likely.

Talking to him on the phone, he said, "...just something simple like [the site I showed you] that"
but I know that'sfar from simple.

I'm already working with a friend on a clothing site for his company he started, I seriously doubt I'd have the time to take on something like that. Perhaps I can get this to someone here who does have the time.
