These people asked me to animate their existing logo. I said I'd do it for cheap, because I want more experience with this type of animation.
Well I spent a lot of time on it but they say it's still too jerky, and not 'dynamic' enough which may be true.

Does it suck, should I give up? should I ask for more money and keep refining it?
character animation is hard.

it needs a lot less chop, less "straight-on" time, slow it down at the end, and pay a more attention to the accuracy of the parts of the body. (looks like they change a lot.)
this is the tedious type of work (mostly becasue of their logo) life like movement is the hardest kind. might want to ask yourself if it is worth the effort.
good luck,

yes, it is jerky... and SLOW. no reason for it to be that slow. speed that mother up!

hehehe. so much for being helpful.
it is a bit slow. are you using grouped objects in keyframes?
i mean... youre not redrawing that every frame are you?

I think it is a bit choppy, but in my opinion, rather than animating the logo, why not find a sequence of a real athlete running in a similar fashion. At the end of the sequence it blends with the logo. I can imaging animating that caracter with all his individual parts as a serious pain in the ass. You should have asked for more money. Don't sell yourself short.

seems to look great to me....not slow at all.... maybe i'm missing something....?

slow to load...

He does look a bit like Snake Eyes -
Maybe I should get one of those, and do a frame-by-frame photo animation of him.
Yeah it's been a pain in the ass to animate. I have a library full of symbols - like a thigh at profile, 3/4 and straight-on - it's 40k and can bog down. I should shorten and simplify it.

OMG!! That was my favorite GI-JOE figure. I played with that thing for days at a time.
Those were the days.

Rotoscope the sequence, man! You're gonna tear your hair out otherwise.

is it keyframed in flash ? try using easing. easing gives the weens a more natural look and feel. easing out(100) makes it start fast and slow to a stop at the end. easing in (-100) makes it start slow and end at fastest. like a car driving then suddenly hitting a tree. play with it, youlss see what im saying.

this is so funny. I just took a look at that animation... I'm cracking up. It looks like he is trying to run on ICE slidding all over the place.
don't worry dude, I've done animations b4. it takes time to get the hang of it.

hehe I'm giggling too...but then it hit me that i might have to do this one day...isn't creative arts magazine doing a bunch of issues that focus on flash cartooning? I don't really like their mag too much but I don't think I've seen any other mag pushing the cartooned flash stuff.
