Just wondering wats the best way to present an actual potfolio to a client face to face these days.. Ive got an actual black folder with plastic sleeves right now but it seems a bit lame.. Ive thought of printing out and making a magazine like folio, but still not sure if thats the best way (mite be to tacky?)..anyways any other suggestions or comments would be helpful!

I'm going the way of laying out pages with and printing them out at A3+ and getting them dry mounted onto foamex, put them into one of those nice 'box' folios so that you can pass the boards around loose rather than in a binder with nasty reflections from the sleeves.

I put put together smaller pitch booklets...... less then a 8.5x11 and got them cut so its full bleed...... cheaper then getting a lot printed...... then I just put them on gloss and coil bind them........ its a nice little flip book and quick that you can always carry with you

I'm moving away from my black folio with plastic sleeves too, but i'm thinking of presenting my work in a flash presentation from a powerbook (when i get one) and then showing actual printed samples of my print work.

I show off a 17 inch powerbook, it always amazes, and gets me the callback.

I love the idea of separate boards to hand them out during interviews, I used that and it's great.
Just remember that if you go through staffing agencies, or big companies where you drop-off the portfolio overnight, or in any ocasion that the portfolio is sent somewhere by itself, these people rather ask you that you have a book instead of separate pieces. This is from personal experience.

I was thinking of whippin out the powerbook and putting the showcasing the portfolio there but do you think i would be presenting myself as a show off?.. if No then that would be a good no fuss solution.. i also like the printed out, hand made ideas.. but i guess that takes more time and effort.. the things we go through to get a job..

i hate show offs, but this is one time where the more you "show off " the better i reckon, as long as you don't come accross as up yourself.
you really want to impress on every level.
seting up a computer based preso shows one more thing that you can do, especially if you do it well.

If it's brochures or anual reports or some print stuff that has some tactile qualities, I show the actual printed piece. If it's ads, or simple layouts, I have separate mounted boards with them (laminated for protection). For identities I have a little binder type booklet I made with them. For interactive stuff, I show on a laptop or just email the url (if its web).
I have all of this inside a brushed aluminium case. It's a little trendy now, but it wasn't back when I bought it several years ago. It still gets a lot of good comments though. The little logo booklet is also matching aluminum.
