Yo, anybody know what's up with the sure M44-7 needles? They're supposed to be the best, but they jiggle like hell. Na'meen?

they're supposed to jiggle. as in, they stay within the groove.

no, the cartridge seriously shakes side to side. One scribble scratch and you're toast.

you need to check your settings.
make sure the head shell's bolts are toward the back of the head shell.
flip the tone are weight so the numbers face out, push it all the way in and pull it out two clicks.
anti-skating = 0.
I keep my tone are height at 3.5 but it depends on the dj, with m447's you don't want it too low.good luck, hope that helps.

are = arm above
sorry, it's late

right, definitely check that it's bolted well as mentioned.
also, with those carts, you want your arm well balanced. It should glide to the record and not just drop like a rock.
Personally, I'm a fan of ortofons. Put all the weight to the front and they stick like glue after worn in a bit, and they sound far better.

Thanks. yea, balanced and set them up properly. my roomate says they need to be worn in, I never knew needles needed to be broke in.

never understood it either, especially considering the better ones are diamond tipped. I think it's mostly the absorbtion of the needle itself that gets worn in. It loosens after use and can stick to the groove better...
After a weeks time drunken body tricks come with delightful ease.

two words: record wear
my needles burned a few of my records early on before i got a set of 44-7... Now I've set both tonearms to 3g and now I haven't experienced any worn out records.
great for practicing or extra heavy use, imho. sounds crappy, but it doesn't need to sound pristine all the time.

definitely a good point, which can't be ignored... still a big fan of the ortofons nonetheless.

I use the qbert m447 when i first purchased them they skipped and i was freakin, being told they are the best, everything people have mentioned is all tru, also leave the needle on a record when u are done. like leave it on it over night or somthin plus u can take out the stylus and wet it and keep it clean.
