What's your thoughts on the sneaker shoe + art integration movement?
i like it, unconventional canvas - new medium... but i'm afraid there may be a "trend" stigma attached to it.
Remember when everyone was airbrushing jeans & jean jackets back in the 80's?
I had a bombed levi's jacker (back panel mural) that said BRINK!

I think it could be done well, but the things that were out on DC are pretty lame.

the only "sneaker art" that has really impressed me is the air jordan project that Brian Jungen did.

wow. you're hard to impress.

well, its hard to deny that most "sneaker art" looks good.
however, Brian's work has a lot of social commentary associated with it. It resinates on more than an aesthetical level.

If you are into sneakers check out 'Where'd You Get Those?' by Bobbito Garcia.
It's an in depth account of sneaker culture throughout the 70's, 80's, 90's, to present day.
worth a look.
I'm rockin' pro-keds royals, blue suede, tiny nate archibald style.
I don know nothing bout sneaker art, only sneakers...

I personally dont like it; in the same way I dont like it when Levis try and bring out jeans with graff down the sides like back in the day, its a nasty sellout when it becomes mass produced like that. When graff writers would piece their jackets and jeans it was communication for a certain group and not purely a fashion device, now ok I've seen some some good graff/tagging on sneakers but there are no principles behind it, I think its just another fashion/street thing for labels to pin their thing on first; adidas tried it about 5 years ago but the masses weren't ready for it, now they seem ready they try again with success... whatever.. if you want to wear it then thats fine but I dont think you'd see any writers wearing it and it would I think deter most from doing their own... its a little like here in London where what was a thriving sticker / stencil scene has dwindled to minimum since the prolification of books and exhibitions has dwindled to near nothing... but then, I'm more of a writer and stickering atc always seemed like a fickle response by the more fashion led crowd that wanted a piece rather than the more hardcore.
