hehe, so true, so true.
but i think the distinct quality of the great wide intorweb is that most dead sites are still there (in nature the dead are eaten away) while the internet as a whole keeps expanding.
we should create a breed of aggressive software that 'eats' dead sites and balance the internet just like nature.

But you know nothing beats a still existing but much out of date site telling the viewer any of the following:
This site uses JavaScript
This site uses Tables
This site uses Netscape/IE/etc
with the logo icons as well.

everybody has a need for deadwood every now and then.
i've found some very valuable bits of info from sites that hadn't been updated in several years.
it's also a great nostalgic snapshot of the chronological progress of the interweb

hehe, okay, here's what i was thinking about while out to lunch:
Remember in CreateOnline magazine, or Wired, or other mags. that really publicised the work environments of the late 90s/2000 dot com boom and all the offices with video games (Kioken for one) and putting greens and playgrounds, etc.
And I got thinking how much easier the actual work was that they were doing then than it is now. True, as the need for more complex web sites and systems grows, so do the skills and technology behind them.
But as more is now able to be done across the boards in all aspects of site design and development, it's kind of interesting to think back to when making a submission form or guest book in Flash was hot, or something like connecting to a database...

there are also sites that are never seeing the true light of day. Behold, a real classic:
at least they change the splash every now and then..

I am in the midst of all this.
I'm putting together a new computer this weekend, and just trying to find some sites with good info about the whole process. Never done this before.
And i find this:
http://www.pcguide.com/
"Welcome to one of the Internet's premier sites for detailed PC reference information"
Site Version: 2.2.0 - Version Date: April 17, 2001I'm ill. I really am.
