I work in an office running 2 G5s and 7 Dells. On our server these ghost files, "._ " prefix files show up, one for every saved file.
I heard this a UNIX thing.
My question is, is there anyway to turn this off?

Dont think so, hav the same problem on G4's running OSX but not 9.2. Its weird and makes quark do funny things...

yeah its definitely an OSX problem. My boss said he deleted thousands of these files this morning from our server!
I still love my mac though...

they are meta-data files, invisible for os x but not other os's.
they store information about a file, such as 'finder' info and application information, etc...
they are simply temp files created when you share files across the mac network to hold meta-data about the shared/copied file...
as far as i can tell anyway. it's really not a unix thing as much as an os x thing.
