Ok after all it's time to get a G5 in addition to my PCs. I'm trying to save money as much as I can, and I came up with this (Apple Store):
- 1.8GHz PowerPC G5
- 1GB DDR400 SDRAM (PC3200) - 2x512
- 160GB Serial ATA - 7200rpm
- ATI Radeon 9600 Pro
- Apple Studio Display (17" flat panel) (maybe)
- 56k V.92 internal modem
- Combo (CD-RW/DVD-ROM)
- Apple Keyboard & Apple Mouse - U.S. English
- Mac OS X - U.S. EnglishThe whole package comes to $2,888.00 (with 17" LCD)
The whole package comes to $2,289.00 (without the LCD)
The whole package comes to $2,769.00 (with 2 NEC 19" CRTs)Is it better to buy a G5 through someone else? Cheaper?
Also, since I opted for no SuperDrive (it saves me $200), I have a much better DVD recorder in my PCs, how hard is to upgrade to SuperDrive later on when 8x comes out. Second in order to save where can I buy a good quality Mac 19" CRT monitor or is any CRT ok to use, or should I just go with this 17" Studio Display. Will there be a problem to use 2 CRTs with the video ports on Macs, any lose of quality with the adapter? Btw, are there additional components that I can buy for this Mac, like RAID controllers so I can put 2 drives in it to work in RAID 0 mode.

#1 I would recommend getting a SUperdrive in an external firewire case. DVDrs play and read DVDs slow.
#2 get the base amount of RAM and buy it elsewhere - just be sure its name brand high-quality stuff or it'll give you massive problems
#3 get the dual CRTs if you're using apps that us a lot of palettes - photoshop, FCP etc come to mind
Any CRT will work. The G5 will come with one adaptor but you'll need a second for the other port - which you can get at www.drbot.com around $40
You should have no problems with 2 CRTs. Just plug em in. THen arrange em how you want in the monitor prefs.
Sometimes OS X does weird things with two, however. Sometimes it lines up icons in the middle of the 'gutter' of the two screens. This might be fixed in Panther. I don't know.
You can just add an identical drive and set it up for RAID 0
OS X supports it and runs great with it.

most definitely buy your ram somewhere else...it will cost you half of what apple charges

Buy your RAM from Crucial technology at http://www.crucical.com
As for monitors, definitely two CRTs at 19", but you have to get the video card that is compatible with two monitors then.
Finally, two monitors in Panther works great, and I never have had the problem the other reported.

And after all those sweet ass arguments you're gettin a mac?

Please no one turn this into a mac vs pc post even though I've included the two words in a sentence. Thanks very much.

all video cards that ship with the G5 support dual monitors out of the box.
