Kinda off topic to design, but I'm building a PC for my Dad (who has just learnt how to use a mouse).
What software should I get him that is must-have general stuff?
I pretty much just have design crap on my computers so am outta touch with non-designer types and what they need on their PC.

video players, image viewers and unzip utility and definetely some antivirus software with all of the security settings turned on. also maybe give him aol instant messenger or some sort of pager type program.

built a machine for my mom last year, added hoyle casino, she loves the video poker, plays it all the time.
