Wrong Vena,
USB 2.0 is theoretically faster than Firewire (480MBs Vs. 400MBs)... BUT, USB is processor controlled which drag your system down if you are using it for other things and also means it wouldn't reached the theoretical peak.
Where as Firewire is independent to the processor and is only limited by HD speed (which no HD MP3 player can go above about 10MBs - therefore the 10sec per album)

actually, both are theoretical speeds, but it's true that there is protocol overhead with USB as compared to firewire which writes directly through the bus. firewire is not independant of the processor at all, i think you're confusing bus and processor. regardless, in either case you also have to consider the device.
that'd be great except for the transfer speed of the ipod itself which doesn't get above 5mb/s (and often hovers around 2) whereas the originally mentioned device does 8mb/s.
it's also worth considering what platform you're on. mac hardware is build with direct tie-ins to the processor and bus for firewire and gives a much greater performance boost than PC hardware. it's not worth using USB2.0 on a mac. with Windows XP SP1, USB2.0 is faster than firewire for most uses in pc hardware.
actually that might be the problem, i think you're going off the pre-SP1 clocks.

Thnaks Vena for explain that - you da man, haven't seen you on NT for ages...mmmm, the good old days
- vena0
np, firewire is def. a mac perk :)
yeah i've been MIA, working a lot, spending too much time on yayhooray. that place is getting weird, though.
- sweetasbro0
I wish I could go MIA too... yeah that's right yayhooray! I remember when you were the Moderators for both sites.
Well, welcome back and I have to say this place has gone weird too (compares to the ol' days)

i think they are trying to look ugly on purpose.
in other news, i dropped my ipod on the concrete yesterday and it's still working fine. took it apart too to look around... pretty much what you'd expect: lcd, circuit board, battery and hd.

looks cool...

the gateway...
looks like ass

okay usb firewire, big deal, I have both on my PC and my mac, they both work fast...
THE REAL PROBLEM....
didnt anyone notice this thing doesnt support MP3's thus calling it an MP3 player is redundant, it is a WMA WAV player, it doesnt support MP3's.
but I guess that's allright, I am sure you have deleted all those illegal files off your computer anyways ;-)
- brundlefly0
oh it does if you have the specific permissions from microsoft or dell and have burnt the file locally or downloaded it from dell or microsoft, otherwize its security protected

every ball-scratcher and their ball-scratching dog has an ipod here. I got an archos 20gig - it's about 1/3 the price of an i-pod(under $200) and it's sweet.
It's USB, but if your're just downloading an album or two's worth, the difference in time is negligable.
