I'm trying to fix my stepfather's computer. It seems there is a conflict as in Device Menager under Other Devices i see Multimedia Audio Controller and Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller with question marks. Also it asked to install these two when i turned on the computer. WHere do i find the drivers for these? Are these related to the motherboard or soundcard, or what?

this is my guess, try it anyways....
it sounds like a usb card and a sound card have become unseated, for whatever reason, a light bump can do it....shut off puter, remove power, open box take out and reinsert the cards, restart.....
or buy a mac (couldnt resist)
seriously try the cards, I think thats the trouble

well i removed the sound card and the only PCI card is the LAN card (which i'm also having trouble with -- i have to connetc to the cable modem through USB) and it still finds New Hardware (multimedia thing and USB thing). Is it built into my motherboard? I guess so.

That's happened to me several times before and I hate to admit that so far I've found only one solution:
Reformat, Reinstall

ok i got (i think) i pulled out all PCI cards and it still Found New Hardware. That means it had to com efrom the motherboard. I inserted motherboard CD and it installed apropriate drivers. One got one more to go... How do i fix that LAN card...

you kids are funny...
a question mark near a device means that the os doesn't recognize the hardware. this is where drivers come into play. go to the manufacturers website to get the latest drivers and install them, reboot, all done.
