new with a g4 rather than a g3. looks good. I was looking into getting a 15" powerbook but this is $1000 cheaper.
Any thoughts?

go 4 it - a nice spec - so close to the powerbook spec which they have just updated...its the slot loader and combo thats cool too.....spend da dough

Well the max resulution is still 1024x768 which is very limiting even if you have a vga monitor. I just got the new alumininum poewrbook on an education discount and I am not even a student. I would still reccommend a powerbook

I dunno about that ati 9200
I just got the 15in powerbook and I love it. Only gripe is the latch isn't always catching.

screen res is an issue but the cost is nice

G5 Powerbooks must be coming soon. I would guess this January.

ooooooh g5 pbooks!
- mvb20
I beleive Jobs himself said that we would see G5 Pbooks by end of 2004 at the earliest.
Remember how long it took before we saw a G4 powerbook?

i heard that there are issues with the g5 in a laptop cuz as it is, the g5 needs wicked fans to keep it cool. you might not see a g5 laptop for a long while.

G5 Powerbooks this january...?
no way, they just fit that beast in a desktop...!
- Mimio0
Yeah, Looks like the end of next year. I wonder how far they will push the G4 performance then?
- nwm0
err
I was having the latch problem too. The Pbook was hard to keep closed and would even pop open now and then.
My roomate has the same model (new 15" ai PB) and his closes perfectly. I sent mine back for a new one.
You've got 10 days to exchange, after that it's just repairs.

I like the white plastic better than the cheezy silver

i see so many powerbooks with dead pixels or vertical lines on the screen... what's up with that?
- Duane0
a coworker just had the latch on his powerbook break. fortunately it was covered by apple care...the latch repair cost $600!!
- kpl0
dead pixels are common for all laptops, not just pb.
also, a G5 is mhz for mhz cooler than a G4... i doubt cooling is that much of a factor.
- tomkat0
can you expand with a 2nd ?
1024 is too few..
- tomkat0
2nd monitor i meant..
- kpl0
from apple site:
"VGA video output
The iBook G4 is also equipped with VGA video output to mirror your work to an external display or projection device."it says it can mirror, but it doesn't say it can do dual monitors. I'm thinking it can't, otherwise they'd mention it like they did for the pb page.
- andre_k0
yeah the ibooks only mirror by default. However, the vid card can support dual monitor. On some of the older ibooks you could unlock the dual monitro feature. I hope you can still unlock it on the new ones...
