Someone please say that this is some sort of sick publicity stunt ...
... if not, this is trully a sad, sad, sad time.
This is the first musician, in my lifetime, whose passing causes me to feal a genuine sense of loss.

i am extremely sad about this. i've dreaded this day, and tonight driving home i heard the news on the radio. he was in progress of recording his latest album, and I hope we got most of it before his death.
his music has played a huge role in my life as it did in many others, i know what i'll be listening to for the next few weeks non-stop.
thank you elliott for your beautiful voice, passionate lyrics and incredible musicianship, you'll be greatly missed.

Oh my god. How did he die? Please don't say drugs.

i was only introduced to his music when i saw the royal tenebaums, that track struck a cord and i went of and bought his other stuff, so glad i did, amazing song writer. he has left a huge mark. rip

can't find anything anywhere (cept for the sweetadeline site)
anybody else find anything?
- sauerbraten0
it has to be true, sweet adeline was pretty much the official site. this is very similar to Nick Drake and his suicide.

Man. This is tough. It's so hard to listen to the songs now, but I can't stop.
- sexypixel0
don't mean to sound morbid or disrespectful but his lyrics always hinted that suicide was an option on his mind.
- autonoma0
Oh yes. Without a doubt he was a sad man.

His music accompanied a suicide scene.

that song linked by digitalswarm is beautiful. Didn't know his music at all. Very sad.

Jesus....man, I almost half of the mp3s I listen to daily are his! I was so looking forward to the new album as I have only been a fan for a year.
Wow.
RIP - as depressing as some of the lyrics were, I still found some encouragement and strength in his melodies and poetic genius.
Truly saddening.

it could be he's dead, people die

I didn't know much about this artist, but I like the songs I heard I heard from him.
Respect.

He really helped me through some tough times. I wonder if he had any idea of how many people he touched.
I mean, what the hell? Is there just not a place for sad songs in our world. I thought singing the blues was supposed to make you feel better. Like getting it all out. We're listening and taking it all in, and somehow that even helps.
Damnit, I can never watch the Tenenbaums again. There's too much irony there.
SUICIDE IS FU@$ING MORONIC!!!
WAKE THE FU@$ UP AND REALIZE THAT.
- swollenelbow0
wow, this is horrible. he was and is the greatest singer song writer i've ever heard.
keep on truckin elliot.
suicide, i can't understand it.
