Please Help: Quicktime

  I'm trying to open some old .avi's (2001, don't know if that helps) and for some reason the sound will play but the video doesn't load and quicktime says something about not being able to find the required compressor.

  Anyone know what may open these? Windows media player isn't either.

  I'm on PC.
