Here are a few of my favorite:
Le Streghe-Great Italian, best Caprese Salad ever (I've been to Italy too), South end of SOHOCorner Bistro-Great Burger, cheaply priced good beer (McSorely's), Corner of Jane and W. 4th in the village
Koronet-14" slices of pizza for 2.75, 110th off the 1/9 train
P.J. Clarkes-Incredible Burger, great atmosphere, coolest urinal, great bartender (Terry from Galway), a bit pricey, 55th and 3rd
Mario's-Arthur Ave. in the Bronx, the whole area is the best little italy in the country, take the D train then the 12 bus towards fordham.
H&H Bagels-Somewhere around 79th and Broadway or Amsterdam on the Upper West Side.
I make a mean batch of eggs over medium myself. Those are my faves.

Oh yeah, definitely find a diner for some good breakfast, most are good, I think there's a great one on 49th and 3rd or right around there, can't remember exactly.
