I know you just put one space between a period and a new sentence. There's some other stuff I'm not sure of, though. What's the correct way to write ellipsis? spaces between each dot or not? . . . or ...
I'm typesetting a book of poetry and the author does some things that I'm not sure whether to "fix" - like a space between quotes and text like " this " and after a colon : it's real spaced out...

"..." = command + semi colon
no spaces between things that aren't words (for the most part)

fix it.
it's incorrect, and distracting to read. people do this because they don't like the way the correct way looks while they're typing away.
unless this person is jack kerouac, fix their punctuation.

Leisurebot's advice is helpful. I've had "elements of typographic style" on my wish list for like a year... That's option-semicolon...
She's a well known writer, but she's not very computer literate and I'm supposed to be the type setter... ... ...

sorry about the option/command reverse... it's just programmed from head to hand, when I it goes head to mouth it becomes transposed.
i've heard "final text" before...

ellipses: use option-; (for mac, of course).
elements of typographic style is a good resource.
