I have a subscription based website that the user has to be logged into. If they leave the page for 1 Hour. the page times out.
My question is this. If I put a refresh meta tag that reloads the page every half hour will this solve my problem of users getting logged out?

just set your session timeout property in your global.asa

Yeah, what mitsu said

I have set the global.asa to 1hr.
Im going to create a page called Stop, that has a refreshher metatag so that while on this page they can walk away cook dinner, watch tv etc..
The site is a math lesson site for kids so sometimes people leave the computer for over an hour at a time. So this is like "please don't log me out page" ??? Make snse?

just set your timeout property to however long you want and you'll be fine:
sub session_onstart
session.timeout = 60
end subanother thing you could do is monitor the time elapsed in javascript and notify the user through a prompt that their session is about to expire.

That sound like a good idea, but wouldn't the stop page solution work as long as they went to that page.
The timeout is set to the time I want for normal pages to timeout.

i don't see why not, but i can't tell you for sure. a simple test would be to set your session timeout property to 1 minute and then refresh the page every 30 seconds.
response.write some session data to the screen and if it's still there after a few minutes you're good to go.

thanks I will try that. Im going to create a seperate global in a new directory and test it there so I don't time any online users out. I can use multiple globals in different folders to override the mail global right?

one global.asa per site.
if i were you i'd just test it on your local machine or create a brinkster account to test it.
