girl rollcall. I'm a girl.
Why is it that the design world, particularly the interactive design world seems to have too few women? Is it true or is it that the geeky boys are louder than the girls?

to all the ladies out there:
'How you doing?'

My personal experience: Put 20 designers in a room of which only 2 are males - sit down and listen, I bet its almost only the boys you'll hear. (Not that what they say makes more sense ...)

in answer to that argument, i'm not being sexist here, but from my experience girl designers (i've been out with 2) tend to want to make things aesthetically look pretty and lads want to make things move about a bit on screen.
both still want to solve particular communication problems in their own ways.
boys seem to be more adept at the mechanical, while gals at creative. also girls tend to stick to more traditional media. i.e print, packaging, textiles.
it's good to collaborate with both sexes as i'd never have got to know so much about printing on fabrics and other media until me and my sis did some t-shirts together. (she's a textile designer)
but there are some deperate souls on here!

lads do tend to be more shouty too, which is good in the studio

Siobhan Keaney is a good type designer, dont know what shes doing these days though.
and Zuzana Licko from Emigre.

clementino...don't base your decision on just TWO girls. I'm by far more knowledgable about the mechanical side than my male coworkers.

I've worked with 2 graphic designer girls, the first one left to become a teacher, the second one left to become a florist - maybe it's me? I know a few other who are still designers but I haven't worked with them... yet.

I don't think here's anything different between male and female designers.

... and it had nothing to do w/ you dstlb? :D

Blofeldt - I dont agree, A LOT of the time you can spot the difference between the creations of males and females. That doesnt mean you cant fake it, and for example do artwork for series of gurly t-shirts -- but you'll still be faking it.
(btw I used CMYK: 0,9,5,0 and 12,0,2,0 + 0,40,40,0 all last week, but I'm a bit of a wussy ...)
