My 2 cents:
I currently work on an older PB 15". I love the laptop but its far slower than my desktop at work. Desktop machines are almost always a generation ahead for the same price. At the same time with wireless technology becoming faster & affordable the portability is invaluable...so my solution to this dilemna will be to continue to own laptops but invest in a cheaper desktop PC(pc as in windows based)...when finances allow for it.

any problems with it?

the god things about laptops is that you can bring them into the jacks for a good old tug.

a friend of mine has got;i work sometimes on it.its fast(after effects runs quite fast on it) but i suggest you get a second screen...

are they salt water proof then???

i like laptops a lot.
it's just great to take your whole work environment to another place and won't be forced to get used to some other shit.. but you should get a 2nd HD for backing up stuff.
they're just a lil slower due to the slower HDs ..
if that ain't no problem for you...

Problems...yep...cd burner has a mind of its own...today it burns..tomorrow it doesn't. But that may be due to overuse. If thats possible.
I strongly recommend the 3 year warranty.

mine works, and i do to.
pbg4 15"
you could always dual up with an lcd screen too. Ive thought about it, but i dont need to really.
I'm really pleased the perfomance.
Its enough for me, and should last for a while yet.Great if you dont like sitting in one spot all day, like me.

no way with a laptop.
Last thing you want to do is is own anything that lends to the potential to look like one of those computer science geeks sitting at Starbucks compiling code.Laptops are about as cool as PDA's, honestly.
- rasp0
maybe he is getting it to work on, not be 'cool' with.
- unknown0
hopefully so, rasp, hopefully so.
I just don't see the point to them if you're looking for something to use at home. You can get a desktop computer for so much less than a laptop, and one that is much faster.

i dont need mine for power alone, i need mine to get ideas down.
Thats why a laptop suits me.
I dont come up with ideas just in one corner of a certain room all the time.
Its nice to work wherever you want, I think
:)
- unknown0
what kind of "ideas" rasp? Like graphics or flash?
Do you carry a sketchbook with you?
- rasp0
see my site, no not flash

rasp,
nice work. :) Really like that Angus Stepp project. nice layout and colors.
So, are you saying that you rely on a laptop when away to get ideas down? Just trying to figure out if you're adverse to sketching ideas by hand.
- rasp0
nope, i always sketch ideas down first, I just i mean i can choose where and when to work!

thread hi-jack! > sorry, spartacus

my 2 cents ==
a laptop is a good motorcycle, which basically means it's a good second computer. I would go for a souped up tower and a lower powerbook. You have no idea how much punishment you give a laptop, and frankly a desktop is so much better all around. But if you wanna be swanky (which there is nothing worng with) go for the gold and get the laptop.
