selecting in a pulldown w/js

  excuse my stupid js questions, when i search for them i just get confused..

  i have a pulldown right, named hi, for example.. with options etc.

  is it possible to use a link to automatically bring it to a selection.. like hi.form.selected=3 and it would automatically change it to the 3rd one..

  do you know what i am saying? so people could select it from a link or from the pulldown itself..

  (i am using 2 pulldwns, thats why i can't just make them both point to a link).
