This time it should be save. Actually that last one was save for me and many other people.
But Apple as put it back up.

Apple put the 10.2.8 back up and fixed the problems with it.
They didnt rename it to 10.2.9 or anythign funky.

I updated the first time, with no problems, then they added a repatch for older ethernet cards on g4 500's which they said was the problem on the initial update....
should be perfectly safe now.
