OK i am the idea guy. A group including myself come up with ideas for our printing company, do a small conceptual and hand it over to a designer. We did this our first project, heres what happend.
We gave it to a graphic designer, not a production person, and the designer must get it to print. The designer changed the look, faded/blurred out very strong images, changes font, added out of date graphics and it got approved. I am so pissed off i want to quit.Does this happen to you...

It sounds like far from an ideal situation. However working in graphic design is also a far cry from being an artist - almost everything winds up being a compromise between various people - some more qualified for the job than others. Most places I've worked - no matter if it has been in production or art direction, you'ld risk having your stuff changed in one way or another, like if I decided to skip work early one day I'ld risk coming back the next day and everything was suddenly already in production. Consider it an unfortunate but sometimes neccessary lowdown of the business

It happens. Don't be too precious over your work. Otherwise you'll have a miserable time of it. It's just a job afterall.
Bad luck though.

call me ignorant, i'm really not trying to be a smartass or an asshole about it. Maybe it's because i work in a small enough studio that the lines are clearly defined in, but: What is the difference between the "idea guy" and the designer? In my office, the designer is the "idea guy" and the production artist carries out the idea. what are the boundaries between you and the designer? Taking my ignorance into account, the designer might have thought he was "designing" or improving something because that is what he sees his job doing. please clarify for me.

ya i know mayo...
when we came up with the concept i was under the assumtion that i could carry it through. My boss likes to add layers. We have a idea group that comes up with ideas. Then we give a conceptual to a designer. The designer should actually be a production person and carry it through. Nope. The designer, who in my mind needs to be let go, finishes it. oh well, nothing i can do about it but whine to you guys! Atleast they can't touch the website i did for the company!JP*//

Its great to collaborate with people if you compliment each other but if you dont... then you have a problem.
I agree with the "defining roles" comment.
Sounds like you need to carry out your own ideas, maybe it will be more work, but if you really care about your ideas then you you will have to.
