the only thing you could possibly have an opinion on is the map, which is so-so.
The rest is just... text. Reminds me of a PowerPoint presentation, whose author had "some" typography skills
Not enough to get me excited.

Simple perfection, thought-through, well executed work. I love it.

the avant garde musings of Wendell have rendered all else obsolete

You guys are kidding saying the work is bad.... right?

I think Pentagram's work is awesome. The are behind why some of the biggest brands work, and they still can do boutique work as well.
The way their site presents is perfect for the volume and varied work that they do.think about it.
they obviously have.

Boring. Dull. Uninspiring. I can see they're trying to do a very dry, honest site that has no bullshit trimmings but it's about as much fun as Lichtenstein (sorry, I've not actually been there but it sounds dull). The work on it is great but as a whole the site wouldn't make me think I want to work with them / for them.
Oh, and the typeface doesn't work very well on screen.
I was going to offer http://www.brownsdesign.co.uk/ as an example of how to do this kind of look well, but they've gone and changed it and it's not too nice either.

Pentagram are sort of like the Design Establishment though. They don't need to impress too much... The moneyed clients know who they are already.

you need to remember they are not firstly an interactive company... hence no whiz bang...
they are not what they is not.
